GB 28480 will enter into force in China on May 1, 2013, limiting the presence of certain elements in jewelry (intended for adults and children) and in ornaments (defined as articles for decoration of indoor environment). The standard includes certain requirements concerning the following parameters:
•Nickel: applicable, similarly to requirements under EU legislation, to any post assemblies which are inserted into pierced ears and other pierced parts of the human body and to articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin
•Total content of certain heavy metals: applicable to jewelry intended for children and to metallic parts of jewelry intended for adults and of ornaments
•Migration of certain heavy metals: applicable to jewelry intended for children
