EU framework legislation on food contact materials 1935/2004/EC regulates a total of 17 types of materials, including active and intelligent materials and articles, adhesives, ceramics, soft cloth, rubber, glass, ion exchange resins, metals and alloys , paper and cardboard, plastics, printing ink, regenerated cellulose, silicone, textiles, varnishes, wax, wood, of which, special instructions and regulations were only issued on ceramics, plastics and regenerated cellulose, that is 84/500 / EEC, 2011/10/EC, 93/10/EEC respectively.
1935/2004/EC requires that food contact materials and goods manufacturing meet the following
requirements:
1) In compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (Good Manufacturing Practice,GMP);
2) Should not release dangerous substances to adversely affect human health;
3) Should not lead to an unacceptable change in the composition of food;
4) Should not reduce the sensory characteristics of food (in terms of food's taste, odor, color, etc);
5) The materials & product labeling, advertisement and description should not mislead consumers.
Article 6 specified when the various types of materials and articles have not enacted specific measures, it is allowed to adopt relevant provisions of the member states.
