Food contact materials belong to indirect food additive, covering under the chapters of 174-190 in FDA, of which, the standards for common materials such as polymer, coating, paper & cardboard are distributed in the chapters of 175-177:
Chapter 175: Polymer resin coating;
Chapter 176: Paper and Cardboard;
Chapter 177: Polymer.
Ceramic products are managed by CPG. CPG 7117.06 and 7117.07 restricted extractable cadmium and extractable lead limit in ceramic food contact materials respectively.
For products exporting to California, except the requirements stated in FDA, attention should be paid to total lead content and total cadmium content. For instance: PP material exporting to California, total lead and cadmium content are also required except the tests in the requirements of FDA 177.1520.
